New beginnings may sometimes be a little difficult, but they are also exciting and thrilling. We support our new colleagues and help guide them through the process by answering questions about registration, working permits and finding accommodation.

Visa/ Working Permit

Non-European citizens who want to reside in Germany long-term need a visa and working permit. Employees who have an employment contract and who have registered their residence go to the Ausländerbehörde (Immigration Office) who will check whether the general legal prerequisites are fulfilled for issuing an “Aufenthaltserlaubnis”. Wimdu can help guide you through the process and offer any assistance you might need.

Registering and Living in Berlin

Every person living in Berlin is required to register at the Bürgeramt within 14 days of moving into their accommodation. To register, you will need: a completed application form, visa (if required), a valid passport and a tenancy agreement for accommodation.

Most people working in Berlin will choose to live in Zone A, the core of the city. The most popular neighbourhoods are Schöneberg, Prenzlauer Berg, Steglitz,Kreuzberg, Neukölln and Friedrichshain. A few documents are necessary when renting an apartment in Berlin: a valid ID and your employment contract are required, while a credit report from SHUFA and a Mietschuldenfreiheitsbescheinigung (a letter from your last landlord stating that you don’t owe them money) are sometimes needed. Wimdu can help guide you through the process and offer advice to ensure you start off on the right foot in Berlin.

Working at Wimdu/ Onboarding

To help you have a great start at Wimdu, we organize a special onboarding event for all new colleagues. This event includes a welcome speech, presentation, a walk-through of the company and lots of information about your personal benefits as a team member. During this event, you will get to know Wimdu’s history, mission, values, product, employees and culture. All of this information is included in our employee handbook.

In line with our onboarding event, new employees are invited to a breakfast with Wimdu’s CEOs who are looking forward to welcoming you to the company.
